Operation Soccer Chopper

This is too cool. One of the families from our church that we have known for a few years has started Operation Soccer Chopper. The Soh Family has been arranging for soccer balls to be sent to Afghanistan. Princeton Soh, the dad, flies a Black Hawk, he and his crew, throw out the balls to the Afghan children..........how cool is that?

An article that was written about it can be found at:

and Princeton's blog can be found at:

If you are interested in sending a soccer ball to Afghanistan, email me and I will give you the address. What a wonderful way to make a difference!

Who's the Guy in the Monkey Suit?

Same guy as last year. Once again Shay braved the 90 degree temperatures to dress like the gorilla and hand out bananas. He really loves this part of the Luau. Some of the little ones cry at him, and some are sooo excited to see him. He posed for lots of pictures last night and probably spent almost an hour in the suit.

Luau 2007

Friday night was the 2007 Living Large Luau. This was our third year. It was ALOT of work, but ALOT of fun. We started setting up in the morning, and was finished just in time. We had a total of about 750 residents who attended the Luau.
We had face painting, a bouncer and a slide, our landscaping service provided snow cones and they had a dunk booth with proceeds to profit the Fort Bragg Fischer House. The food was yummy, we had it catered by Front Porch: Hawaiian chicken, fried chicken, corndogs, coleslaw and the BEST hushpuppies. WE also had Hula dancers and belly dancers along with the Fayetteville RollrZ.
Jacob and Cub Scout Pack 730 passed out leis. Andrew was in charge of making sure the little ones didn't take too many sodas. Melissa hung out in the sound booth AGAIN this year, with the Fayetteville Police Band's sound guy Tim. Alexander just enjoyed the free food and snow cones. Abby just bounced around from place to place.
After it was over, we crashed in the Neighborhood Center for a few minutes to enjoy the Cold Air Conditioning!
We still have things to put away, but I'll think about that tomorrow.

It's the First Day of School!

The First Day of School!
Three in uniforms this year. Andrew is in 8th grade at Albritton and Alexander is in the 7th. This is Melissa's first year at Irwin, she is in the 5th grade. Jacob is in 3rd and Abby is in 1st. (Shay doesn't start until Monday-different school system).
Andrew is still playing trumpet this year. And Alex is still playing Sax. They both plan to join the Albritton Jazz Band this year. Melissa will be taking another year of piano lessons.
We decided not to do fall sports this year, since Dad isn't home, I really need that extra driver for that! So in the spring Jake will play baseball and Andrew hasn't decided but I think he's leaning towards soccer. Abby is wanting to take karate classes so I'll need to check on that. Shay is still ice skating, but not doing ice hockey this year. He is still skate guard at the ice rink.
So what will I do with all of my free time........WHAT FREE TIME.......lol...........
I start teaching early morning seminary next week. 6:00 AM. Monday's are given to the Devers Elementary PTO as well as volunteering at Devers on Thursdays. Tuesdays are the Neighborhood meetings so I guess as the mayor I really need to be there? FRIDAYS, I am UNAVAILABLE........(that really means I'm not getting out of pj's until at least noon). So that only leaves Wednesday to hop around to three other schools. I also want to set aside some time to go into the Family History Center, so we'll see.
We did plan out dinner menu's for the next month so we'll see how that goes. I made a shopping list for each week too............did I mention that I don't do well with lists?
Happy First Day of School!

Meet Jacob's Teacher

Jacob's Teacher is Mrs. Krynicki. Tonight at Open House she had a scavenger hunt for him to complete. He likes scavenger hunts. He came out of her room with a gumball filled with NERDS. The way to Jake's heart is through the sugar. LOL.

Meet Abby's Teacher

This is Mrs. McDonald. She is Abby's first grade teacher. Jacob had her when he was in first grade too. WE absolutely LOVE her.

Dirk the Jerk and Maggie

Some more pictures of our new puppy, Maggie. Dirk has finally decided that he likes her. They fight over his rawhide bone, but he lets her take it.......She has learned to "Sit" already, we're working on "Easy" as she snatches her treats and her baby teeth are sharp!
